I am an NHS GP, former Mayoral candidate and Councillor, businesswoman, a wife and mother.
I have lived in our capital for 45 years and was educated in London all the way through to medical school. I have always had a keen interest in politics and have been actively involved from a young age. One of my earliest memories is delivering leaflets in the seventies to campaign against the fascists in East London who used to throws eggs at my Mum and I on the way to school.
I have worked with two international companies the headquarters of which are London-based. I helped to take the operation of one of these businesses from seven to nineteen markets. I am responsible for two large public bodies which are in receipt of £3million of public funding. Together these organisations deliver healthcare services to approximately 50,000 residents.
In the 2018 New Year’s Honours list I was awarded an MBE for services to Community Healthcare and also received a British Community Honours Award. I am the first pupil from my state school to become a Doctor and the second Tower Hamlets GP since 1945 to receive an MBE. I have put myself forward to become your Member of Parliament because like you I have experienced Labour failing residents for decades, having lived in a similar diverse London borough. I will be a fresh of pair eyes with a new vision. Using my skills and experience, gained both nationally and internationally, I will take Harrow West forward into the 21st Century.
I understand the issues and concerns faced by you; rising gang crime, fly tipping, high rise developments with loss of historic skyline, rundown schools, poor NHS services and loss of green space. I will work with a Conservative government to tackle these problems and get our lion’s share of new police officers, NHS and educational resources from Westminster. I want every Harrow West resident to have the same life chances and opportunities that this great country has given to me.
This is the first reaction video from Dr Anwara Ali MBE and she'd like to thank all of her supporters, colleagues and family and friends and is humbled by receiving this great honour from her Majesty. We'd like to thank everyone who has stood by her in her career and throughout the time she has been in the NHS. Thank you to all the well wishers and we wish you all the best!!!!
PS- There is also a clip from our lovely friend Thelma Cohen and thank you again for your continued support.
